Celebrate the holidays with snazzy new Spartan cosmetics.

Now that the Halo Infinite multiplayer experience is finally here, many fans are looking forward to the free in-game events that the developers are planning to hold periodically throughout its first season. Like the Halo Infinite Fracture: Tenrai event, these events will offer players a chance to earn several themed rewards while they're active and may even feature a unique gameplay experience as well.

One of these events is titled Winter Contingency, which recently went live in-game. Here's everything we know about Halo Infinite's Winter Contingency event, including its start and end date, rewards list, and more.

Halo Infinite Winter Contingency start date and time

The Winter Contingency event officially went live on Dec. 21, 2021, and is scheduled to conclude on Jan. 4, 2022. This means that the event will be active for two weeks.

Like Halo Infinite's standard weekly resets, the Winter Contingency update released at 9 a.m. PT/12 p.m. ET. This will likely also be the time that the event goes offline once it concludes, so keep that in mind if you're planning some last-minute event grinding.

What is Halo Infinite Winter Contingency?

Like Halo Infinite's Fracture: Tenrai event, the Winter Contingency event is a free in-game event that all players are able to paricipate in. Notably, the event will be heavily themed after the holiday season and winter.

Players can earn a variety of holiday-themed rewards, including armor coatings that prominently feature festive colors such as white, peppermint red and pink, light green, and more. There are also new player emblems, weapon charms, and other cosmetics as well — including items available exclusively on Halo Infinite's microtransactions shop. According to 343 Industries, players are able to earn many of these rewards by playing one match per day during the event.

Something worth noting is that while Winter Contingency is similar to Halo Infinite's Fracture events, the developers have stated that the event "is not the same scope/magnitude" as them. This means that players shouldn't expect as many rewards, and that there's not any new playable content being offered.

Does Halo Infinite Winter Contingency have new content?

While the addition of Fiesta during the Fracture: Tenrai event suggested that Halo Infinite's free events will include a new form of playable content, it seems like Winter Contingency does not since the developers stated it won't be as large as Fracture: Tenrai and because there doesn't appear to be any new content in the game.

Halo Infinite Winter Contingency rewards list

Like other Halo Infinite events, Winter Contingency has its own dedicated Event Pass that is completely separate from the standard Halo Infinite Battle Pass. Since the event is free, players can progress through this Event Pass without having to spend any money by playing one match per day. As they progress, they'll earn each of the rewards that 343 Industries is offering over the course of the event. We also expect that some additional unlocks will become exclusively available in the Halo Infinite microtransactions shop during the event, although there aren't any Winter Contingency items in the store right now.

Based on everything we can see in the Winter Contingency Event Pass, here's an overview of everything that's available during the Winter Contingency event.
