At WWDC 2022 on Monday, Apple announced the all-new M2 chipset. The next-generation Apple silicon succeeds the M1 chipset and is set to power the next set of Macs. The newest computer processor touts a significant CPU and graphics performance over its predecessor while staying as power-efficient as well. Alongside the M2 chip, the Cupertino giant also announced the new MacBook Air and the 13-inch MacBook Pro powered by the new Apple silicon.
The 2022 MacBook Air is the first model to be powered by the new M2 chipset. It gets a brand new design language that builds on the previous model. It is slimmer and lighter than its predecessor. The all-new MacBook Air brings the MagSafe charging port. The laptop is available in four finishes – Silver, Space Gray, Midnight, and Starlight.
The MacBook Air 2022 gets a 13.6-inch display with a notch for the FaceTime camera similar to the 14-inch MacBook Pro. The display is 20 percent brighter than the one on the predecessor. The speakers and mics are integrated in the keyboard. There’s a three-mic array and a four-speaker sound system with Spatial Audio support for stereo audio and improved clarity.
The MacBook Air 2022 gets a Magic Keyboard and a large TouchPad. The M2 MacBook Air is 20 percent faster than the M1 MacBook Air. Apple touts a fanless design and all-day battery life with 18 hours of video playback. The MacBook Air also supports fast charge using a 67W charger that can charge the laptop to 50 percent in just 30 minutes.
The M2 chipset also powers the new MacBook Pro. The 2022 MacBook Pro promises more CPU and GPU performance than its predecessor thanks to the new M2 chipset. It features a 13-inch Retina display without the notch that’s seen on the 14-inch and 16-inch MacBook Pro models. The new MacBook Pro promises up to 20 hours of battery life on a single charge.
Talking about the M2 chipset, the new Apple silicon offers up to 24GB of unified memory, a next-gen 8-core CPU that comprises 4 performance cores and 4 high-efficiency cores. The GPU now has 10 cores, which is two more than M1. The M2 chipset delivers an 18 percent increase in performance over the M1 chipset.
The new M2 MacBook Air is priced at USD 1,199 (approx Rs 93,000), while the M2 MacBook Pro costs USD 1,299 (approx Rs 1,01,000). Both the laptops will go on sale next month. The official India price of the MacBook Air starts from Rs 1,19,900 while the MacBook Pro starts at Rs 1,29,900.
